The history of soy wax

Candles have been used for over 5000 years ago as a source of light and celebrations for humans to light. In 3000 BC, Egyptians were using wicked candles, but the Romans wet papyrus in melted tallow or beeswax. These candles smell badly burned first and probably worse. The Chinese are the candles in paper tubes, with rice paper for the wick. Japan wax candles from Walnut. Even in India, have used the boiling water the tree of cinnamonCandle making. Candles were used for the light source to help travelers in the night, and for religious ceremonies.

During the Middle Ages was often candles in worship. It 'was at this time, used to make beeswax candles. These candles were like the Romans did with tallow candles. Beeswax has been a drastic improvement of tallow, but the quantities available were limited, which is expensive, limited to the clergy and nobility.

InColonial America, early settlers found that they were able to placate a very wax obtained by boiling the berries of the bayberry bush. This wax produces a very sweet and good smell burning candle, but the process of convergence of bayberry wax was very boring and tiring.

In the 18th century, was flourishing whaling industry and the result was whale oil in large quantities. Spermaceti wax extracted from petroleum and has been used as a substitute for tallow,Beeswax and bayberry wax. The spermaceti candle has an unpleasant smell, rather similar, but the wax was hard enough to keep the shape in the hot summer months.

The 19th Century, there was a time for the manufacture of candles and candles. The first machine patented candle making were introduced this time a. This important result allows properties of all classes to get the candles. E 'was also right around the same time that a chemist named Michael Eugene Chevreul identified for the first time that the tallow orAnimal fat was composed of fatty acids. One of fatty acids was identified stearin (stearic acid). In 1825, patented chemical and other Chevruel named Joseph Gay-Lussac, a process for the manufacture of candles, oil stearin. This process greatly improves the quality of the candles.

The braided wick also invented in the 19th Century. Wicks before the time of simply twisted strands of cotton were burned to the weak and needs constant maintenance. Braided wickclosely intertwined and coiled on a portion of the wick and thus has to be completely consumed.

It 'was the focus of the 19th Century, the paraffin was used first in a candle in Battersea, United Kingdom. This has led to commercial production of paraffin, from which a distillate of petroleum. Burning paraffin clean, bright and odorless. The paraffin was also mixed with stearic acid, which hardens the wax, creating a superior and more convenient candle.

With the introduction of keroseneLamp in 1857 and the light bulb in 1879 were determined candles lose their power, to the "King of Light." Candles are now in a minor role as a source of light and were stored for emergencies.

The 1990 has brought a new kind of growth for the industry. In 1991, Michael Richards was originally founded his production company Candela Works in beeswax candles. Beeswax was expensive, up to 10 times the cost of petroleum wax (paraffin). In July 1991 Michael Richards experimented with a wideRange of plant waxes and vegetable oils. His goal was a natural wax, cost-competitive with paraffin was found. Continued testing natural waxes for several years, including a wider range of native and tropical vegetable oils, while research and development of wax candles from other plants.

In 1997, Candela works in collaboration with the University of Iowa, documents the testing of new soy waxes developed by Michael Richards. This work has produced a report entitled "StrengtheningThe use of soybeans in the production of candles "for the Iowa Department of Agriculture.

Documentation of research Michael Richards of natural waxes from 1991 to 1999 the U.S. patents in 2000 was presented. In 2001, Cargill bought the intellectual property of Michael Richards invented soy wax. Michael Richards continued the soy wax in the area, the market and has provided technical training for other producers in the use of candle wax soy. In 2002, Michael Richardshas launched a national guild of candle manufacturers "Village Chandler". Currently there are 62 members and 17 states and in Canada. This guild is committed to the production of soy wax candles manufacture. Currently, soy wax is quickly becoming a new national industry and the main alternative to paraffin wax.
